Frequently Asked Questions
-
What does “competitive mean”? A competitive swim club means that if your child is a Junior (age 11 and under) they will swim 2 days per week and if they are a Senior (age 12-17) they could be swimming up to 4 days per week. Both the Seniors and Juniors are eligible to compete in swim meets in our region which includes Calgary, Cochrane, Canmore, Okotoks, High River, and Didsbury. It is highly encouraged that if your swimmer qualifies to swim in our home meet that they attend. We encourage all swimmers in our club to swim in as many meets as possible.
-
When do they train? Our Junior swimmers will train in the pool on Monday’s and Wednesday’s from May until the beginning of August. Our Senior swimmers will train Monday – Thursday from May until mid August.
-
What is my role as a parent? We are a not for profit swim club as such we require volunteers to make our program run smoothly. We will require all swim club parents to volunteer at our Home Meet (June 4, 2022). There are various other volunteer choices throughout the season as well at other meets. Some meets require each club provide a certain amount of volunteers. There are free courses that parents can take to become officials, information on these courses will be available at registration night.
-
Will we have to fundraise? Yes, as we are a not for profit group we do a small amount of fundraising so we can keep our registration costs down. Every three years we require volunteers to assist with a Casino. The Casino is a large fundraiser for the club and therefore only needed every three years.
-
When does Swim Club Start and End? Our Season starts the first week of May and ends in mid August when the Regionals and Provincials are held.
-
What can I expect at a Swim Meet? Swimmers will typically arrive early in the morning (coach will provide a time) for warm up, the Meet typically begins around 8:30 a.m.. Swimmers can bring blankets or a sleeping bag, snacks and entertainment to the facility to keep them comfortable and entertained throughout the day as there will be times of waiting in between their races. Parents can often stay with their swimmers throughout the day. Expect to be at the meet until mid to late afternoon. On occasion we are required to provide volunteers at swim meets, we would then ask for volunteers from our returning parents. On the plus side of volunteering at swim meets, it makes the day fly by!
-
What are the Swim Club Fees? Junior Fees will be $246.00 and Seniors will be $296.00. This includes all of the meet fees (there will be no additional fees for the Swim Meets they attend).
-
What is Mini-Club? Mini-club is for young swimmers who are just starting out. It is one day per week for the season. Mini-club kids are encouraged to attend our home meet to see what it's all about.
